About this Site
Building a Life will help families and young adults with disabilities plan for transition, regardless of where they are in the process. This website has the resources, services, supports, ideas and tools to help support young adults in their transition, as well as tools for them to learn about self-advocacy and independence.
You will also find out how other Kansas families have used resources, services and supports for their young adult’s transition to adulthood that will help you realize possibilities for your family.
The website is divided into six main topics that are linked in the top navigation bar of each page.
- Circle of Support
- Life in the Community
- Health
- Education
- Work
- Your Home
Each of these main divisions is further divided into subtopics. Links to these topics and their subtopic pages are at the bottom navigation of each page.
The Basics navigation bar
The world of transition can be hard to navigate, especially when there are a lot of terms that may be new to you. We have created a glossary of terms, abbreviations and acronyms that links from The Basics navigation bar on every page.
Also linked from The Basics is another key resource, the Kansas Resource Guide. This is an online directory of local community and state-wide resources that may be of interest to you and your family. This directory is searchable by county, city, zip code, key word, service type, and provider name. If you need more help to find resources, call the Kansas Resource Guide at 1-800-332-6262. Someone is available Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm to take your call!
